Bali is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches, cultural attractions, and vibrant nightlife. It’s also a great place to live, with a range of different neighborhoods and communities to choose from. After living there for over a year now, I can say that these are some of the best places to consider if you’re thinking of making Bali your home:
Just north of Seminyak, Canggu is a laid-back neighborhood that’s popular with surfers and digital nomads. It has a more relaxed atmosphere than Seminyak, with a mix of local warungs (food stalls) and trendy cafes. It’s also home to a number of co-working spaces and yoga studios. Some of the best restaurants and cafes are here in Canggu due to the large expat community.
Located on the west coast of Bali, Seminyak is a trendy neighborhood known for its high-end shopping, dining, and nightlife. It’s also home to some of the island’s most luxurious villas and resorts, making it a great place to live if you want to be surrounded by luxury.
Located inland, Ubud is known for its lush rice terraces, traditional villages, and cultural attractions. It’s a great place to live if you want to be immersed in Balinese culture and nature. Like Canggu and Seminyak, Ubud also has a number of great restaurants and it puts you at a motor bike ride away from many things across the island.A big draw of Ubud is that you're more immersed in nature - you can find dozens of beautiful waterfalls just a short drive away.
Located on the southern coast of Bali, Uluwatu is known for its beautiful beaches and seafood restaurants. It’s a more residential area, with a mix of villas and apartments, making it a great place to live if you want to be close to the beach but not in the thick of the tourist crowds. Uluwatu is world renowned for its amazing beaches for surfing.
Located on the east coast of Bali, Sanur is a more established neighborhood with a mix of expats and locals. It has a laid-back atmosphere and is known for its beautiful beaches and bike-friendly streets.
Ultimately, the best place to live in Bali will depend on your personal preferences and lifestyle. Consider factors such as proximity to the beach, access to amenities, and the local atmosphere when deciding where to make your home.
